To back-story or not to back-story? That is the question.

Last night I posted a trio of pseudo-horror themed super villains for the belated Trilogy of Terror.

I presented you with Eclipse, Techno-Necro, and The Dark Raven in a Super d6-lite format.

Phil has postulated that I’ve broken some unwritten rule in the Superhero Genre by not providing any back-story to the super criminals.

I countered that what I’d intended to do was present the supers in a generic enough framework to drop into any game and didn’t want to color the characters with my back-story.

But I also wonder if I’m wrong on that stance. So I’m asking for your advice.

Are the super villains as presented enough?
Or should I fill in the back-story details?

Adding a backstory is a good idea. Some GM’s like having this already worked out – it saves them time when they have a lot to do. Other GM’s will make up their own backstory anyway – but they might use some elements of your backstory as inspiration.

So based on discussions in various formats (email, face-to-face, here, Google+, etc.) it seems the consensus is that I’m guilty of taking the easy (and wrong) path by not adding any back-story to the super villains presented.

    I stand corrected.
I’ll be editing the blog posts and adding the story-lines to each.

Okay, I’ve updated the blog posts with a small bit of back story/more information.
Hopefully my penance helps me return to the good graces of my superhero genre following fans.

Naturally you realize now I must know the details behind The Incursion.
Or perhaps this was your intention all along…

    Naturally :)
