I am a Scout

I am a Scout.

Boy Scouts of America

I am a Scout

I am a Scout and I am Trustworthy.

My word is a bond of honor that can be counted upon to be true. Never shall I say one thing and yet do another. Ever shall you be confident in placing your trust in me.

I am a Scout and I am Loyal.

Never shall I turn away from my responsibilities to those who require my aid. My allegiance shall never be in question. I shall ever be faithful.

I am a Scout and I am Helpful.

I care about my fellow man. I will provide aid and do my duties with no concern for remittance. My payment shall be the knowledge that I have done what is right.

I am a Scout and I am Friendly.

Ever shall I offer good will regardless of station or position. As all are my brother, let no man ever find me less than a friend.

I am a Scout and I am Courteous.

Politeness and good manners shall ever be my means of conveying myself to my fellow man.

I am a Scout and I am Kind.

I am strong enough to be gentle, wise enough to be patient, and faithful enough to be compassionate. Never shall I allow my aims, goals and actions to be tainted with the misuse of power or authority.

I am a Scout and I am Obedient.

I shall ever follow the rules of my God, my family, my Den, Patrol, Troop and Pack, and the laws of my Country. I shall be guided by the rules and teachings of my Akela; my leader. No man shall ever find it necessary to call me cheat, liar or criminal.

I am a Scout and I am Cheerful.

I shall ever greet my fellow man with a smile and a handshake. I shall offer good will in every encounter and perform every act with humility and a smile. Never shall I allow myself to foster an environment where others are not encouraged to be happy. I shall find the positives in all things and never dwell upon the negatives.

I am a Scout and I am Thrifty.

I am not a spendthrift. I shall not waste the resources I have been given. As a steward of all things, I shall conserve and protect what is, what was, and what shall be.

I am a Scout and I am Brave.

Though I be afraid, I shall accept my duties and face danger when necessary. Never shall I allow blind fear to be my copilot. I will stand tall under adversity and perform my appointed tasks when called. The importance of my duties requires that I never be turned from them. Though others may laugh and jeer, courage shall ever be my badge and shield of honor.

I am a Scout and I am Clean.

My body and mind are my greatest of tools. Ever shall I keep them in the peak of condition. I shall surround myself with others who hold themselves to the highest of standards so that I too shall be encouraged to do the same.

I am a Scout and I am Reverent.

I am first and foremost led by God, my Creator. No act, thought, or desire shall ever sever myself from the sacred bonds of my faith. Ever shall I be respectful of the beliefs of others and ever shall I demonstrate my adherence to my own beliefs. I shall ever strive to be the example of one who walks with, and is directed by God.

Boy Scouts of America

I am a Scout

I am a Scout.

On my honor…

I pledge these things on my Sacred Honor. Let God and all men know that my very essence binds me to uphold this promise.

I am a Scout.

… I will do my duty…

I have a responsibility that I shall never shirk from. No task laid before me will go undone, no goal shall not be attempted. My works shall be the works God sets upon my shoulders and I see these works as requirements of me.

I am a Scout.

… to do my best…

I never give less than my all. If something is worthy of my attention, it is worthy of my best effort. And while my best may not always be enough, I will give my all with the satisfaction and knowledge that I have done all I am capable in order to complete my goals. I shall never be ashamed of the job I’ve performed, because I know I have done it to my utmost capability. I will always be proud of the work I’ve performed.

I am a Scout.

… to God and my Country.

My tasks require me to do as God commands first, then to do as my Country asks. I shall always first find my lead in the Almighty, my Creator, but I shall never shy from the requirements of citizenship. As God calls me, I shall answer. In like fashion, so too shall my fellow countryman find me ready, willing, and able in times of need.

I am a Scout.

To help other people at all times.

Never shall the voices of the needy be silent upon my ears. Never shall I turn from those who require my assistance. I shall ever stand vigilant, ready at any moment to provide aid and do my Good Turn daily.

I am a Scout.

To keep myself physically strong…

I shall not become slothful and lazy. Nor shall I allow my being to become corrupted with drugs and alcohol. My body is the handiwork of God and I shall treat it as such. I am ever to Be Prepared. My body must be able to provide to give my all at any moment.

I am a Scout.

… mentally awake…

My mind is my greatest tool. I must be ready to be clear of thought at any time. Never shall I dull my sense with chemicals and foolishness lest I fail to recognize my duties or perform them to less than by best.

I am a Scout.

… and morally straight.

I shall be the moral compass for others. As I shall measure myself against what I know is correct, let all men and women seek to measure themselves against my example. Ever shall I hold myself to the highest of standards.

I realize this is a complete departure from my typical posts, but as this is my 400th, I thought I’d share a bit of something outside my gaming interests.

My son joined Scouting this year and we’ve been enjoying it immensely. I have fond memories of being a Scout and have even taken on a leadership role as a Den Leader in his Pack.

While time consuming, being able to share in the experiences of Scouting with him is a true joy that is well worth the added responsibility.

  2. Tom Glenn says:

Awesome post, I love to be associated with my fellow brothers and sisters that share the same enthusiasm and love in scouting as I do.

  3. Zap Dynamic says:

I received my Eagle Scout badge 8 years ago, and I can still quote the Oath, Motto, slogan, and promise from memory. No matter how much I grumbled at the time, Scouting was a once in a lifetime experience. My father is an Eagle, I’m an Eagle, and my son will be too.

  4. Kevin says:

I never quite made it to Eagle, falling short from a time crunch alone. So consider there some serious respect from me to anyone who accomplishes earning the Eagle rank or the Gold Award.

My son has a stated goal of earning every possible award.
Good goal I say. Lots of work, but good goal none-the-less. I’ll be supporting him in whatever he needs to accomplish it.
And my daughter can’t wait to join Girl Scouts as well.

Like you Zap, I’d like my kids to have the same memories of Scouting as I.

  5. Mike Collins says:

I actually just had my Eagle Court but two weeks ago! And I have to agree with everyone, Scouting was my life. My younger cousins are Webelos now and I hope to see them rise through the ranks to Eagle also!

  6. Kevin says:

    Congratulations Mike!
Sounds like your cousins have a good role model to follow. That’s awesome.
